BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Are you looking to price on a medical procedure in your area? There's an app for that. Local plastic surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Kaplan, has created an iPhone app, allowing you to crunch those numbers in minutes, so you can decide if plastic surgery is in your price range.
Jonathan Kaplan, MD, Baton Rouge, La., was getting a trim inside a local barbershop in December 2009 when he had an epiphany: Why not create a phone application that gives cosmetic surgery pricing information to prospective patients - before they even call the office? The result of that brainstorm is the BuildMyBod™ app, released for iPhone, iPads and iPods on Feb. 1. (A web app version - available for use on Android phones - was released June 1.) The app has received about 10,000 downloads to date.
How much is it gonna cost me? It’s the first question most patients have when it comes to plastic surgery. Now, you can find out in a matter of minutes, thanks to a new iPhone app called Build My Bod.
The app was invented by Baton Rouge Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jonathan Kaplan, who recognized the need for a tool to better educate patients before coming in to the surgeon’s office for a consult. He said it’s a win-win for both the patient and doctor, since it can prevent patients wasting their time by coming in for a consult for a procedure that may be way out of their budget.
Jonathan Kaplan, MD announced the release of BuildMyBod™, a smartphone app he developed that allows consumers to find a cosmetic surgeon, plan and price cosmetic surgery procedures, and make an appointment directly through the application.
Approved by the iPhone App store, BuildMyBod is now available for cosmetic surgeons to subscribe to the database and upload their practice data. Consumers can download the free app at the iPhone App Store - search keyword, "buildmybod". More information is also available at buildmybod.com. As more surgeons upload their data, the app will allow consumers to search for cosmetic surgeons by zip code and review different procedures by gender with pricing information that includes the total costs - doctors fees, operating room costs, anesthesia costs, implants, etc. Previously, some physicians included only their own fees, which did not provide a complete picture.
"Bringing information about my practice and procedures with such detail, literally at the fingertips of consumers, is an exciting addition to the way we educate our patients," says Dr. Graper. "The more informed patients are, the better decisions they ultimately make about the cosmetic surgery procedures that are right for them."
