Cosmetic surgery is no small feat, as finding the right doctor, a plan of action, and the best price for the procedure, and not to mention recovery, is hard enough. While the results may have a lifelong impact, both physically and emotionally, the immediate obstacles in preparing for a possible procedure can be quite difficult, and any help facilitated along the way can be more than useful.
Now, candidates for cosmetic and plastic surgery – whether optional or necessary – can turn to BuildMyBod, a smartphone application that provides a breadth of information to guide patients in the right direction before a procedure. Packed with a detailed database of potential surgeons, plans and procedure costs, this application can be used on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Cosmetic surgeons can now subscribe to the BuildMyBod database and upload their practice data for consumers to review. As more and more surgeons begin to sign up for the database, users will be able to search by zip code for lists of area surgeons, detailed information on procedures by gender, and pricing information that provides a complete picture of the process including doctors’ fees, operating and anesthesia costs, and more.
Founded by Dr. Jonathan Kaplan, the BuildMyBod smartphone application was originally devised to help build up his private practice. However, a database consisting of thousands of cosmetic surgeons across the U.S. proved more fruitful as it’s a resource that many patients need.
“Consumers want information to make better buying decisions, especially about cosmetic surgery, where prices for the same procedures can vary by as much as 35 percent,” said Dr. Kaplan. “As the dramatic growth in the development of apps for the iPhone (News – Alert) shows, people want the convenience of having information they can use to make important decisions on their phones. It seemed logical that being able to research cosmetic surgeons and procedures that way would be of real value to consumers and to surgeons, too.”
While Dr. Kaplan has done most of the heavy work in creating the database, he invites surgeons to subscribe to the database, as well as add more specific information to their profiles.
The BuildMyBod app has been approved and is now available through the iPhone App Store, and will soon be available on the Android (News – Alert) operating system, according to Dr. Kaplan.
