Botox and Xeomin for migraines, TMJ, gummy smile etc

botox and xeomin
BOTOX® and XEOMIN® are similar injections that many doctors use to treat wrinkles to the face. They work by relaxing muscles that cause those wrinkles. But today, we’re going to focus on some of the less common uses of Botox and Xeomin.

Treating migraines with Botox and Xeomin

Not everyone is a candidate for migraine treatment with Botox and Xeomin. But if your migraines start from a “trigger point,” such as in between the eyebrows, to the outer eye wrinkles (“crow’s feet”), the back of the scalp, you may be a candidate. This is how it works.

If a muscle in the aforementioned areas compresses a nerve in those areas, Botox and Xeomin can relax the muscle causing that pressure. Once relaxed, the pressure on those areas ceases, reducing the “trigger” for a migraine. Your doctor can determine if you’re a candidate with a trial treatment to that area with Botox or Xeomin.

Treating temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain with Botox and Xeomin

TMJ is the broad term used to describe pain or dysfunction to the area where the jaw connects to the skull. If you have TMJ pain, you’d definitely know it! Injecting Botox and XEOMIN to those areas around the the TM joint relaxes muscles, potentially reducing pain. Injections to the masseter muscles in the same area can also relax those jaw muscles, giving the jawline a thinner more feminine appearance.

Gummy Smile and treatment of excess sweating with Botox and Xeomin

As you can see in this article regarding a gummy smile or this article regarding sweating (hyperhidrosis) to the armpits and palms, Botox and Xeomin are very versatile. By blocking chemicals that activate muscles and sweat glands, they can effectively treat a gummy smile and hyperhydrosis.

Fine lines to the upper lip without a gummy smile? That’s ok, the treatment is the same. Watch the video below to see a patient get treatment.
