How much does it cost to fix my gynecomastia?

Is this a question you’ve asked yourself before? If you have gynecomastia (excess breast tissue in men), then you’ve come to the right place to find the answer. As part of our series on cosmetic procedure costs, we can fill you in on the cost of gynecomastia correction. Typical costs associated with gynecomastia are the surgeon’s fee, the OR/anesthesia fees, postop garments (a tight fitting vest to minimize bruising and swelling) and cosmetic insurance.

gynecomastiaJust a little overview first. Excess breast tissue in men can be ‘idiopathic’, meaning there may be no cause, it just happened. It can also be from a past history of steroid use or marijuana use. For the record, if it’s caused from steroid or marijuana use, don’t be afraid to be honest with your plastic surgeon and tell them this. They can’t tell on you! And most doctors won’t be judgmental. So here’s a breakdown of these costs for my practice:

Surgeon’s Fee: $3,993

OR/Anesthesia Fees: $1,440

Garments: $150

Cosmetic Insurance: $300

Total: $5,883

The extent of the scars that result from gynecomastia correction depend on your surgeon’s technique and on the amount of excess skin you have. If you mostly have excess breast tissue with minimal excess skin, I can treat this condition through an incision around the lower half of the areola that will leave a hidden scar. Some doctors extend the incision onto the skin around the areola which can make it more obvious. If you have a great deal of excess skin, more scars may be necessary. Your plastic surgeon can provide details.

Prices vary across the country as you can see in this 2014 Annual Pricing Report. If you would like more pricing information for a plastic surgeon near you, check out BuildMyBod.com.

Hope that helped!
