Breastfeeding after breast augmentation

There’s no problem with breastfeeding after breast augmentation. Plain and simple. Keep in mind that not everyone is able to breastfeed but that has nothing to do with the presence or absence of breast implants. Some women simply can’t breastfeed or it’s too painful or the baby doesn’t attach well. But if you were able to breastfeed before implants, you’ll be able to breastfeed after implants. There’s nothing about the implants that would preclude that. However, there’s something else to consider!

If you’re considering breast augmentation followed by pregnancy in the very near future, you may want to hold off. The idea behind breast augmentation is to give you perky and/or larger breasts. What happens when you breast feed? Some women, after breastfeeding, develop pendulous, saggy breasts. In many cases, the breasts return to their pre-pregnancy state but you can’t count on that.

So if you recently had breast augmentation and are sporting some perky new breasts, the last thing you want 9 months later are pendulous breasts that hide any trace of the implants you just purchased! If after you finish breastfeeding your breasts remain saggy, you may “need” a breast lift. If you’ll be breastfeeding soon after breast augmentation, it’s worthwhile considering holding off and just having one operation post-pregnancy as opposed to a breast augmentation before breastfeeding and a breast lift after breastfeeding.

On the other hand, if you have no intention of getting pregnant anytime soon, then get your breast implants, enjoy them and “cross that bridge” of breastfeeding when you get to it!

Did you get breast implants and then require a breast lift after breastfeeding?
